Mixolydian Scale in 12 Keys

Mixolydian Scale in 12 Keys

The Mixolydian scale or Mode is derived from the Major scale starting on or emphasizing the fifth tone. For example a C major scale starting on or emphasizing the note G would be considered a G Mixolydian scale. Another way of interpreting the Mixolydian mode can be playing a Major scale with the 7th tone lowered by a half step.

Example:

G A B C D E F# G = G major scale
G A B C D E F G = G mixolydian scale

Or

C D E F G A B C C major scale
            G A B C D E F G G mixolydian mode

The Mixolydian mode would usually be accompanied by a G major or G dominant chord.

Notable songs written in the Mixolydian mode would be:

Ramblin Man (Allman Brothers)
Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyd)
Sweet Child Of Mine (Guns and Roses)

In this video I will demonstrate the Mixolydian scale in 12 keys following the cycle of 4ths progression. As usual keep on playing and enjoy.
